4 Signs Your Central Air Conditioning System Is Failing
May 18, 2015
Summer is coming, we are all getting our pools ready, stacking food for cookouts, and tucking our winter wardrobes away. While we are busy doing other things, we usually expect the central air conditioning to work after a quick tune up and clean up. However, some signs can’t be ignored and are the indications that service is needed.
Call a Boston HVAC specialist if you notice any of the following warning signs:
No power, AC not turning on
If your system won’t turn on, there are a few things you can check to troubleshoot the issue. Make sure the thermostat is set correctly to “cool” mode with a new battery. If you can’t hear the system running and no air blowing from the vents, double check the circuit breaker. If that doesn’t work, there may be a broken wire in the wiring. Schedule an AC service technician to fix the loose connection.
Excessive noises coming from the system
Does the system sound right? Do you notice that it sounds the same as it did last year? The most common cause of excessive noises could be that the fan motor is trapped with debris, such as leaves and twigs, or that the motor bearings need replacement. You will need to stop the system to prevent further damage.
Uneven cooling throughout your home
If you’ve noticed that some rooms in your home are too cool and some are not cool enough, your system could have a few issues. Air filters get clogged and can restrict flow, so be sure to change your system’s filter. Also, if the unbalance continues in your system, you could research some automatic vent dampers.
Leaks around a filter or on the piping can cause some significant Air Conditioning loss. If you see a cobweb blowing in the breeze around your duct piping, it needs to be repaired.
System is not blowing cool air
If your system is not blowing cold air, call a pro! If you tried everything above and still have no cold air, call a pro. Also, keep in mind if your system is close to 20 years old, be sure to weigh out the investment of repair vs. replace. Some systems may be too old and inefficient to repair.
Even if your Central Air Conditioning is performing spectacularly, you should still schedule a simple tune-up to ensure its health. At Winters® Home Services, our AC tune-up is only $99! Call us today at 617-221-5899 to schedule service.
