Winter Warming Tips | Winters® Home Services

December 22, 2017

During the chilly winter season, having a warm and comfortable home is important. However, many homeowners find it difficult to keep warm without breaking the bank on utility bills. For years, our Boston HVAC technicians have installed, replaced, and repaired heating systems throughout Massachusetts.

We Offer the Following Tips to Help You Enjoy a Warm Home While Reducing Energy Costs:

  • Use a programmable thermostat. Programmable thermostats let you set the desired temperature at different times of the day. You can set the temperature to 60 degrees while you are at work and have it set to 68 for when you come home. This way, your heater doesn’t have to run all day, but you will still enjoy a comfortable home.

  • Utilize sunlight and curtains. During the day, let sunlight in through the windows. This natural light can provide some warmth to give your heater a break. When the sun goes down, close up the curtains to insulate your home and keep the warmth in.

  • Clean the heating vents. If your vents are clogged or blocked, they won’t be able to let the heat through. This will cause your heater to work extra hard to keep your home warm. Before the winter, you should inspect and clean the vents, and move any furniture or decorations so the heat can easily come through.

  • Close doors and windows. A good way to keep individual rooms in your home warm is to keep them sealed. This means closing all doors and windows while the heater is running. This will help insulate the rooms and trap the heat in.

  • Use your oven. Using the oven will warm up your kitchen, as well as the rooms nearby. Thus, baking, broiling, and making holiday treats in your oven can help keep your home warm during the chilly winter months.
