Romania, Kingdom. A Bene Merenti Medal, 1St Class, Gold Grade, C.1879 Auction Archive Canada: Two-piece construction(1876 1881). Type I. In bronze gilt, engraver marked "W. KULLRICH" on the obverse, 30 mm, without ribbon, spotting on the reverse, edge nicks, light contact, very fine. Footnote: The medal was instituted by Royal Decree 314 on February 20, 1876 (Julian calendar) and was the first Romanian non military award, to be given in recognition of merit in the arts, science, industry and agriculture. The medal was suppressed on July 19, 1931 by Royal Decree
