Ask the Expert: November 2011 Q&A

Question:

My dishwasher has been in overdrive with all the holiday aftermath.  I've noticed there is water in the unit as if it's not totally draiining.  Is this a problem?

Answer:

Dishwashers by design are supposed to leave some water in the unit at the end of each cycle.  In this way, dishwashers act a lot like, say a water heater, in that the type of heater a dishwasher uses is prevented from burning up.  However, if a lot of water stays in the sump, it could be that the drain is clogged.
